- An old saying that cannot be disputed, most especially with regard to crime. The financial, physical and emotional cost of armed robbery is far greater than any equipment or strategies employed in the prevention of the offence. It often takes so little to turn one’s thinking from the reactive, or 'what do we do after the event,' to proactive or 'how do we prevent it in the first place?. Unfortunately, many businesses still wait until after a robbery has been committed to take steps to prevent a further occurrence.
- It must be remembered that for people who handle cash or drugs in a retail environment, armed robbery is a real workplace hazard for which employers have a legal obligation to avoid subjecting their staff to. In addition to the possibility of prosecution, it is quite reasonable to draw the conclusion that a civil suit could be brought against an employer who is seen to have failed to provide a safe working environment.
